GEAGPS

GeaGPS is a data acquisition system developed for a passive and continuous monitoring study aimed at observing the evolution of a landslide detachment phenomenon, as a complement or alternative to remote sensing techniques. Originally designed for a specific application, GeaGPS features an architecture oriented toward customization, allowing it to be adapted to various monitoring contexts.
In the case of landslide phenomena, ground movements can generate microseismic events or indicate an imminent detachment: the microfracturing process releases elastic waves, which are recorded by a network of sensors distributed across the affected surface. Dedicated algorithms make it possible to distinguish these signals from ambient seismic noise, classify them, locate their source, and analyze their temporal evolution. This information is essential for identifying the most unstable compartments and monitoring the development of the phenomenon up to the point of rupture.

PASSIVE CONTINUOUS MONITORING - THE GEAGPS SOLUTION

To acquire seismic data over long periods in remote areas characterized by extreme temperature variations and harsh environmental conditions (such as the Italian Alps), GeaGPS has been equipped with internal batteries capable of ensuring at least one month of operation. Thanks to the use of a solar panel, the battery autonomy can be further extended. The data, provided by a three-component surface geophone (2 Hz), is acquired through a 4-channel, 24-bit board and automatically stored on the internal SD memory. The integrated GPS clock enables the synchronization of multiple GeaGPS units, even if they are not physically connected to each other.

This allows researchers to freely choose the most suitable locations for deploying each individual station, each of which is capable of operating completely autonomously. By installing an internal SIM card, it is possible to periodically send an SMS to the Central Monitoring Station, reporting battery charge level, memory usage percentage, temperature, and other parameters. Thanks to this simple, ultra-low-power solution, the operator can remotely verify the operational status of the entire system throughout the entire monitoring period.

GEAGPSACCESSORIES

The 3D Land Geophone 3DLG-2 is the ideal accessory to add to your seismic instrumentation and perform HVSR, MASW and Vibration Analysis. One vertical and two horizontal high-performing sensors, with 2Hz resonance frequency and properly coupled, are mounted in a robust waterproof case, delivered with adjustable feet and inter-changeable rods.

2Hz and 4.5Hz - sensor triad in standard 3C shell with bubble level and 3 steel 75mm rods, 1m of cable terminated with 3x single “split spring” for seismic cable (version available upon request with Cannon connector for direct connection to the seismograph).
